The Bali Museum is located in the center of Denpasar City and is the oldest museum in Bali.
The Bali Museum is an ethnographic museum which exhibits cultural objects from prehistoric times to the present which reflect all elements of Balinese culture consisting of archaeological collections, historical collections, fine arts collections and ethnographic collections
In 1910, WFJ Kroon , a Resident Assistant for South Bali, came up with the idea of establishing an ethnographic museum to protect cultural objects from extinction. This idea received a good reception from all kings throughout Bali, scientists, artists and cultural figures. Kroon ordered Curt Grundler, a German architect who happened to be in Bali as a research tourist, to make plans together with undagi (traditional Balinese building experts) including I Gusti Ketut Rai and I Gusti Ketut Gede Kandel from Denpasar and was officially opened on December 8 1932 under the name Bali Museum
