Artist Statement
Art is my way of listening, connecting, and giving voice to communities across the world. Influenced by ancient crafts and modern realities, my work uses color and form to tell stories that resonate across cultures. The pot shapes in my murals represent comfort, home, and shared heritage, while the patterns and figures speak to the richness of identity. I believe public art has the power to transform space and spark dialogue—and through each mural, I strive to create moments of joy, visibility, and belonging.

Artist Biography
Yessiow is a Bali-born muralist and illustrator whose work bridges cultures, communities, and storytelling. Rooted in both Javanese and Balinese traditions, her vibrant, large-scale artworks are informed by textile patterns, ancient pottery forms, and her experiences traveling the world. Since 2013, she has pursued a career in public art, culminating in the co-founding of Yayasan Kolaborasi Dunia Tangi and the Tangi Street Art Festival in 2023. Her murals reflect a deep commitment to community engagement, cultural diversity, and women’s empowerment.

2024Cacak, SerbiaThis mural is a tribute to my moments with my mother when I was in school. She braided my hair every day, and during that time, she would tell me how my day at school would be and give me advice on how to handle things. My parents are both knitting artists, and I grew up in a knitting factory. I would often join my mother at work since my school was only five minutes away. She managed to work and take care of me at the same time. Now that I travel often and don’t see her as much, this memory is especially precious to me, and I want to cherish it.We all have strong memories with our loved ones that shape who we are. These moments, whether big or small, hold a special place in our hearts. For me, the simple act of my mother braiding my hair each day was filled with love, wisdom, and connection. It reminds us of the importance of family and the bonds that remain strong no matter where life takes us. This mural is not just a reflection of my personal story but a celebration of those cherished memories we all hold dear

Inspired by the phrase Onna-dake (女だけ), meaning “only women” or “women’s strength,” the mural celebrates resilience, beauty, and unity.Each woman is surrounded by natural elements to show their deep connection to life and the world. With bold colors and powerful imagery, the mural is a tribute to women’s strength and a message of inspiration for everyone who sees it

2023San Pietro di Magisano, Calabria, ItalyJauh Di Mata, Dekat Di Hati is an Indonesian saying that means ‘Far from sight, close to our hearts.’ It describes the feeling of my latest mural Stijn and I created at @luce.fest in San Pietro Magisano, a small village in Southern Italy with just 350 friendly residents. The people at San Pietro are incredibly warm and welcoming, and their kindness knows no bounds.Romano, the wall’s owner, and the neighbors were incredibly sweet and supportive. Romano, in particular, went the extra mile by assisting me in taking final photos in front of the wall. He’s truly the sweetest!This mural, the wonderful people, and the charming village have etched a lasting impression in my heart. Just like the mural’s title suggests, ‘Jauh di mata, dekat di hati,’ even though we had to say goodbye, these memories will forever hold a special place in my heart
