Artist Statement

Noni is an artist who explores sweet treats as a medium for memory, nostalgia, and life experiences. Her childhood memories—sharing or competing for sweets—inspire her work, where sensory pleasure meets hidden narratives.

Over time, she delves into the history, symbolism, and irony behind sweet treats, exploring the paradox between delight and bitterness. The carefree and sincere world of childhood gradually fades under the pressures of adulthood.

In her work, candy becomes a metaphor for fragile values—melting, crumbling, or tainted by life experiences. Using bright colors to conceal heavy themes, she creates a space for reflection, highlighting the wisdom of childhood as an alternative to the compromises of adult life.

Artist Biography

Artist Noni Rinjani (b. 1999, Bandung) is an artist who explores sweet treats as a medium to connect taste, nostalgia, and lived experiences— a theme deeply tied to her childhood. Her work highlights the paradox between sweet memories and bitter recollections, incorporating the symbolism of confections to reflect both personal and social experiences.

Noni pursued her art education at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Surakarta, and is currently based in Yogyakarta, where she continues to develop her artistic practice at Yayasan Rumah DAS (Dyan Anggraini Studio). Since 2019, she has actively exhibited in various cities, including Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Surakarta, as well as in Malaysia. In addition, she frequently participates in illustration and poster-making competitions that focus on the theme of sweet treats.
