Skinner Ohrami

Artist Statement

I extract the fluidity of emotions and turn them into visuals, bringing up personal, familial and social issues in the subliminal form of a satirical semi-surrealism. I use my artwork to raise awareness and to spark conversation. I believe in art as a form of subversive expression, where the audience can find beauty in chaotic and uncomfortable visuals. Surrealism is the best way for me to express ideas that are unattainable in reality, allowing me to have a sense of freedom within the artwork

Artist Biography

Skinner Ohrami is a Javanese Fine Artist living in Bali who loves to express feelings and emotions through story-telling in symbolic paintings, often making her paintings as a series of stories and themes. Her ultimate weapon is acrylic, painting on various media such as; wood, fabric, canvas and many other surfaces. Her main painting style is semi-surrealist with abstract galaxies, dark trippy colours and fantasy creatures.

Her focus is to dive deep into the subconscious message through surrealism. Each of her paintings have a story, meaning, and represent a part of her emotions. She captures them in a single symbolic painting that can be so odd, triggering and cynical. In her perspective; artists must be capable of turning emotions and experience into something visual.
